Journal pick

http://www.cineaste.com is the url for my journal pick.  The reason I picked this for the journal I'm following this semester is because I read the blogs and articles in the resource Carl posted on D2L and it seems like something that I would be interested in following.  Especially indiewire.com because I'm really interested in independent films and what goes into them.

Hey Krystle,
Do you mean you will be reading articles in indie wire or cineaste?

Sarah,
Honestly I'm interested in both, but more specifically cineaste. I wasn't really sure what Carl was looking for when he wanted us to pick a journal to follow. (I didn't take film 201 and I'm a freshman, so this is my first film class.) Would I be able to go as broad as cineaste? Would I be able to use that as my journal? Or does he want something more specific like indie wire? (I found indie wire through cineaste.) I'd like to use Cineaste as my journal pick, but read into indie wire too as needed. Let me know what you think.

Hey Krystie -
Sorry if I was confusing. Not to be unhelpful, but I think either one would work! They are different mediums - indiewire does have articles but it is also a bulletin board/newswire. Cineaste is wonderfully eclectic, with longer essays on filmmakers, styles, certain issues. (The current issue spotlights three of my favorite filmmakers for instance! Guy Maddin, Chris Marker, and William Klein.)

So: how to decide? 1) Read the guidelines for the next blog post on the D2L site. You may feel that one of your choices is more readily applicable for that assignment. And 2) Use this test: since you made this initial post, which of the two - indiewire or Cineaste - have you been looking at the most? I'd go with that one.

Of course, I encourage you to read both, but you only need to report on one.

Is this help? Let me know what you decide!

Carl,
After reading over the next assignment on D2L I've finally decided on my media journal. Sorry that it took me so long! To be honest I've been looking at Cineaste a little bit more. I think you're right about the fact that the essays are longer and it seems that there is a lot more to look at. Definitely more broad and I like that. I'll be reading into indiewire for sure in my spare time, but I'm going to go with Cineaste for my journal pick. Thanks for your help!
